Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has praised security agencies for restoring peace to the crisis-hit Bagana community in Omala Local Government Area.
Speaking during a visit to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Bagana on Monday, Governor Ododo emphasized his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and properties across the state.
The governor lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for facilitating the establishment of the FOB, which has been pivotal in addressing security challenges in the region. He noted that the coordinated efforts of security agencies had curbed the violence that displaced thousands and destroyed properties worth billions of naira during clashes between Agatu residents and suspected herdsmen from Benue State.
Local leaders and residents expressed gratitude for the peace-building initiatives. “Governor Ododo’s decisive actions have brought much-needed relief to Bagana. We urge the government to rebuild our communities and provide healthcare, markets, and schools,” said Apostle Peace Peter Simion, a community leader.
The FOB’s establishment was part of a state government strategy to combat crime in Kogi East, following a high level of insecurity in Omala and neighboring areas. In an earlier statement, Kogi State Information Commissioner Kingsley Fanwo said the governor’s intervention aimed to end the cycle of violence and ensure the safety of all residents.
Brigadier O.A. Fadairo, commander of the 12 Brigade, credited Governor Ododo for enabling the FOB to operate effectively, fostering an environment where residents can resume daily activities.
With peace restored, normalcy has returned to Bagana, and business operations have fully resumed. Governor Ododo urged residents to support security efforts by providing intelligence to prevent future crises.
