Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has expressed profound condolences to the government and people of Oyo State following a tragic stampede at a youth festival in Ibadan, which claimed the lives of 35 children.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo described the incident as heartbreaking and extended his sympathies to the bereaved families, particularly mothers mourning their children.
“Our prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones and the government and people of Oyo State in this trying moment,” Ododo said. “It is a devastating loss of young and promising Nigerians, and we stand in solidarity with those affected by this tragedy.”
The stampede occurred on Wednesday when over 5,000 young people gathered at a high school in Ibadan for a festive youth event. Governor Ododo urged authorities to improve crowd control and emergency response systems to prevent similar incidents during large gatherings, especially during festive seasons.
He prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls and called for strength and comfort for their families as they navigate this difficult time.
The Governor’s message adds to a growing chorus of condolences nationwide as the country mourns the lives lost in the tragic incident.
