The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has accused Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello of plotting to arrest major stakeholders and leaders of the party with false terrorism charges.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, the SDP’s Director of New Media, Isaiah Davies Ijele, alleged that Governor Bello is desperate to salvage his failing administration and intends to frame and arrest key leaders of the SDP, such as the Director General, Muri/Sam Campaign Council, Sheikh Jibril Ibrahim, the Director General of Youths Mobilization, Hon. Ahmed Attah, and other esteemed members of the Muri/Sam Campaign Council.
Ijele claimed that Governor Bello has secured a court order in order to arrest the SDP leaders, and that he has contracted an FCT Anti Kidnap team, led by the OC Anti-Kidnapping, FCT Command, and his thugs to carry out the arrests.
The SDP Director of New Media appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, the Inspector General of Police, and all relevant security agencies to take swift action and prevent Governor Bello and his associates from proceeding with these unjust actions.
“We assert that elections should not be treated as acts of war or matters of life and death,” Ijele said.
Governor Bello has not yet responded to the SDP’s allegations.
