Kogi Elections: SDP Gears Up for Legal Battle as INEC Staff Prepares for Results Inspection
The Kogi governorship election’s drama continues. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) is set to inspect election materials, specifically from the contested areas of Okene, Adavi, and Okehi. This inspection marks the beginning of a potentially lengthy legal battle at the election petition tribunal.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has summoned its staff involved in the election from these specific areas to be present in Abuja on Thursday, January 4th, 2024. This includes Executive Officers, Heads of Departments, Executive Officers of Polling Units, and ICT personnel.
The SDP legal team will facilitate the inspection process, taking responsibility for logistics and accommodation of the relevant INEC officials. The inspection is expected to run from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily.
This development signifies the SDP’s determination to challenge the election results in the three contentious areas. The inspection of materials will be crucial in building their case for the upcoming petition tribunal hearing.
