Kogi Varsity Student Found Dead Along Lokoja–Abuja Highway

A final-year student of the Federal University Lokoja, identified as Sarah Idoko, has been found dead by the roadside along the Lokoja–Abuja Highway in Kogi State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday night around the Crusher axis near Felele in Lokoja, where her lifeless body was discovered after suspected attackers allegedly dumped her there and fled.

Eyewitnesses said a vehicle was seen stopping briefly at the location at about 8 p.m. before speeding off. Shortly after, passers-by came across the body and raised alarm, prompting the intervention of security operatives.

Initial confusion surrounded her identity after an identification card recovered at the scene suggested she was a student of Kogi State Polytechnic, enrolled in the Higher National Diploma programme in Office Technology Management for the 2024/2025 session.

However, the Kogi State Police Command later clarified that the deceased was actually a final-year student of the Federal University Lokoja.

Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Kankarofi, said investigations had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding her death and to identify those responsible.

He assured that the command was committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice for the deceased.

Meanwhile, the Association of Nigeria Female Students (ANFS), Kogi State chapter, has condemned the killing, describing it as tragic and unacceptable.

In a statement signed by its State Coordinator, Celina James, the group expressed sadness over the incident and called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation.

The association also urged authorities to improve security along the Felele corridor and around student-populated areas, noting that the route has witnessed repeated security concerns in recent times.
