Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Salihu Danladi, has been announced the winner of the All Progressives Congress governorship primary in the state.
The party’s governorship election committee, led by Musiliu Obanikoro, on Friday declared Mr Danladi the party’s governorship candidate.
According to Mr Obanikoro, Mr Danladi polled a total of 94, 990 to defeat his rivals Yahaya Seriki who had 41,700 and Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa who secured 22,118 votes.
Mr Danladi emerged the winner in the election despite Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s public endorsement of Mr Serikias his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The election was witnessed by APC stakeholders and delegates across the state.
Mr Danladi previously served as speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly after emerging in 2019, and was re-elected in 2023. He is a lawmaker representing Ilesha/Gwanara constituency in Baruten Local Government Area of the state.
