The police command in Kwara has recovered two AK-47 rifles, three magazines and 42 rounds of live ammunition from a suspected gun-runner along the Alapa-Okolowo axis of Ilorin.
In a statement on Monday, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command’s spokesperson, said the operation took place during an intelligence-led effort to prevent and disrupt criminal activities.
“The interception was made during a stop-and-search operation along the Alapa–Okolowo axis of Ilorin, where the firearms and ammunition were recovered from a bag found inside a commercial vehicle,” she said.
She stated that the suspect, Umaru M., 30, initially denied ownership of the bag containing the firearms but later admitted his involvement in conveying the recovered firearms and ammunition.
“He also provided information linking the weapons to another suspected member of a gun-running network, named Dan Yarubawa, who allegedly gave him the firearms for onward delivery to another individual, Dahiru, outside Kwara state,” the officer stated.
