The Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of a 30-year-old man, Anax Isah, who pleaded guilty to a N170,000 fraud charge.
The magistrate, A. J. Aina, ordered his remand at the Badagry Correctional Centre until January 12 for review of facts and sentencing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 1, at about 2:00 p.m. in the Ibereko area of Badagry.
Mr Ekpo said that the defendant obtained N170,000 from the complainant, Anax Isah, under false pretences.
He alleged that the defendant had promised to supply the complainant with two bags of beans but failed to do so.
“He was later arrested and handed over to police for prosecution,” he said.
The offence contravenes the provisions of section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The court has fixed January 12 for a review of facts and sentencing.
