The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued two individuals who were trapped in a commercial bus following a multiple-vehicle collision along the Motorway inward Toll Gate axis of the Ogudu–Alapere corridor in Lagos.
The agency confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq.
According to LASTMA, the crash involved a 12-tyre DAF articulated truck and a Volkswagen T4 commercial bus marked AA 60 YF.
Preliminary findings showed that the commercial bus somersaulted after the impact, leaving both the driver and a passenger trapped inside the wreckage while also causing serious traffic disruption along the route.
LASTMA said its officials, who were already on routine patrol in the area, quickly moved to the scene and activated emergency rescue procedures as well as traffic control operations.
Working in collaboration with other emergency responders, the agency’s operatives were able to free the trapped victims, who were subsequently handed over to the Lagos State Ambulance Service for urgent medical attention.
The authority described the rescue as part of its continued commitment to protecting lives, improving road safety, and ensuring effective traffic management across the state.
Security at the accident scene was provided by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, who assisted in crowd control and ensured a safe environment for rescue operations.
To restore normal traffic flow, LASTMA also evacuated the damaged vehicles and implemented diversion measures to ease congestion caused by the crash.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the swift response and professionalism of the rescue team, urging motorists, particularly drivers of commercial and heavy-duty vehicles, to adopt defensive driving habits and obey traffic rules.
He further stressed that road safety remains a shared responsibility and called on all road users to remain patient, alert, and disciplined while using Lagos highways.
