The Lokoja Traditional Council on Monday called on the Chairman of Lokoja Local Government and relevant security agencies to halt the planned coronation of one Alhaji Suleiman Musa Aiga as the purported “Ohinoyi of Egbura Lokoja,” describing the exercise as unauthorized and contrary to established traditional procedures.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Secretary of the Council, Alhaji Muhammadu Maikarfi Usman, the council said its attention had been drawn to a public notice circulating on social media announcing a coronation ceremony scheduled to hold at the Muhammadu Buhari Square, Lokoja, on June 28, 2026.
The council stated that His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir, the Maigari of Lokoja, neither appointed nor approved the appointment of any individual to the position of “Ohinoyi of Egbura Lokoja.”
According to the statement, the proposed coronation is inconsistent with the customs, traditions and existing regulations governing the Lokoja Traditional Council and its recognised traditional institutions.
“The Maigari of Lokoja has neither appointed nor approved the appointment of any person as Ohinoyi of Egbura Lokoja,” the statement said.
The council further expressed concern that the planned event could undermine the authority of the traditional institution in Lokoja and create unnecessary tension within the community.
It therefore appealed to the Lokoja Local Government chairman and other relevant authorities to intervene and stop the proposed event in the interest of maintaining peace, law and order in the area.
The statement reaffirmed the council’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and respect for lawful traditional processes, while expressing confidence that the authorities would take appropriate steps to address the matter.
The proposed coronation, according to notices circulating on social media, is expected to take place on June 28 at the Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja.
