Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has been announced as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), following unanimous support from the party’s leadership.
His emergence positions him for a major electoral contest against incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is also expected to contest under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The decision was reached at a party gathering where leaders of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) described the process as peaceful, transparent, and well-organised. The National Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Dantali, commended the conduct of the exercise and said it reflected internal democracy within the party.
Following the endorsement, Dantali formally presented Makinde with the party’s Certificate of Return and flag, symbolising his status as the party’s official flag bearer.
Party officials also noted that Makinde’s nomination received unanimous backing from all 36 state chairmen, sealing his position as the consensus candidate ahead of the general election.
