Makinde to Set Up Special Intervention Fund For LAUTECH’s Iseyin Campus

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde says his administration will create a special intervention fund to address infrastructure and academic gaps at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Iseyin Campus.

Mr Makinde said this on Saturday, during a stakeholders’ meeting at the state’s secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

He noted that the intervention would include accommodation for students and lecturers, an IT centre, a healthcare centre, and buses to ease mobility.

The governor said the state had invested N15 billion in the College of Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources at the Iseyin campus.

Mr Makinde, however, warned that staff, students, and residents of the host community must shun indiscipline and actions that could heighten the teething problems of the fledgling institution.

He added that his administration would continue to provide the necessary support to the state’s education sector.

Mr Makinde stressed that stakeholders, especially students and lecturers, must cooperate with the government and the institution’s governing council.

He urged students to always discuss their requests with the government rather than resort to protests, which could lead to vandalism.

Earlier, Ayodeji Omole lauded Mr Makinde for his efforts leading to the state’s ownership of LAUTECH.

In response, the vice-chancellor, Razak Kalilu, also commended the governor for resolving the ownership issue and establishing the college in Iseyin.

He also commended the governor for relocating all students of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Science from the university’s main campus in Ogbomoso to the Iseyin campus.

Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the students, Israel Olaobaju thanked the governor for his recent visit to the campus, adding that it had brought about positive developments.
