The police on Wednesday arraigned a 29-year-old man, Ayeni Adeyemi, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged house breaking and stealing.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of house breaking and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 4 at about 4:00 p.m., at Onala community off Tinuola Maximum School, Afao Road in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant broke in and entered into the dwelling house of one Adeyemi Bukunmi.
Mr Adeniyi also alleged that the defendant stole a cash sum of N250,000 and other property in the house totally valued at N433,000 belonging to the complainant.
According to him, the offence contravened Section 322(a) (b) and 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Joy Raphael, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until February 2 for hearing. (NAN)
