A man identified simply as Success has reportedly died after allegedly being tortured by operatives of the Ogun State security outfit, So-Safe Corps, in the Oju-Ore area of the state.
The incident was said to have occurred along the Coca-Cola Road axis, where the deceased was allegedly taken into custody following a domestic dispute involving his mother.
According to reports circulating on social media, particularly a Facebook post by Ota Gossip, the trouble began on Saturday after a disagreement between Success, his mother, and his younger brother at their residence.
It was gathered that during the altercation, Success sustained a head injury and was reportedly bleeding before the matter was escalated to the So-Safe Corps for intervention.
The social media report alleged that instead of handing him over to the police, the operatives took him to an uncompleted building in the Oju-Ore area, where he was allegedly subjected to severe assault.
Another Facebook user, Temitope Adeniyi, also claimed that the young man was beaten to death by the security operatives after being taken away.
He alleged that the officers failed to follow due process, stating that the victim should have been transferred to the police after his arrest.
Confirming the development in a telephone interview, the spokesperson of the So-Safe Corps, Adegunwa Adegbuyi, said the officers involved have been handed over to the police for investigation and prosecution.
Adegbuyi condemned the alleged misconduct, describing it as a violation of the corps’ operational guidelines.
He explained that the operatives were deployed to the scene following a distress call from the victim’s mother, but reportedly acted outside their mandate.
According to him, the corps leadership, on receiving the report, immediately transferred the suspects to the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that the command does not tolerate human rights abuses.
He added that the Commandant of the corps had consistently warned personnel against taking laws into their hands or engaging in unlawful handling of suspects.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has yet to issue an official response on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
