A woman from Maryland is threatening to sue Meghan Markle over injuries she claims were caused by following a bath salt recipe the Duchess of Sussex shared on her Netflix series With Love, Meghan.
The episode featuring the recipe aired on March 4 and included a mixture of Epsom salt, arnica oil, lavender oil, pink Himalayan salt, and dried flowers.
The woman, Robin Patrick, says she used the recipe at home and developed severe burns after soaking in the bath. She later shared photos of her injuries with media outlet RadarOnline. Patrick, who is diabetic, says she experienced painful burning sensations on her legs and hands shortly after getting into the tub. According to her account, the pain worsened after the bath and developed into ulcers. She reportedly tried multiple treatments for relief but said none provided lasting comfort.
Patrick argues that Meghan, Netflix, and Archewell Productions should be held responsible for not warning viewers of potential health risks. She has demanded $75,000 in compensation for her medical expenses and an additional $10 million in punitive damages. She claims that Meghan had a duty to inform the public that such bath mixtures could be unsafe for people with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes.
Medical experts generally advise people with diabetes to avoid prolonged soaks in bath salts due to the risk of skin damage and infection. Dry skin and nerve issues caused by the condition can make even minor wounds difficult to heal, sometimes leading to serious complications.
In response, Meghan’s attorney Cameron Stracher issued a formal letter rejecting the claim. He stated that neither Meghan nor the production companies involved had any legal obligation to warn Patrick, as there was no special relationship between them. Stracher also said that the bath salt recipe itself did not present a known danger to the general public and that Meghan’s speech on the show is protected under the First Amendment.
The letter emphasized that the injury was likely related to Patrick’s existing medical condition rather than the ingredients themselves. It added that Epsom salts are known to be problematic for diabetics unless used under medical guidance, and that responsibility lay with the user to be aware of personal health risks.
While no legal case has been formally filed, the situation has stirred public debate about health advice shared by public figures, particularly when it involves wellness products. Meghan has not made a personal statement about the incident.
