NAF Restates Commitment to Gender Inclusion, Mentorship For Female Officers

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reiterated its commitment to gender inclusion, mentorship, and professional development for female officers and airwomen.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, AVM Abubakar Abdullahi, made the commitment during the International Women’s Day celebration Lecture on Tuesday in Abuja.

Mr Aneke emphasised the critical role of female personnel in operational effectiveness and national security, describing them as “critical pillars of operational and institutional success.”

He urged senior officers to deliberately create pathways for junior female officers to learn from experienced leaders.

According to him, mentorship, collaboration, and institutional support are essential.

He noted that by empowering female personnel, they are strengthening not only individuals but the entire air force.

He stated, “Group Captain Theodora Pereira, who celebrated her 90th birthday last August, was the first female NAF officer deployed to the war front and the first Chief Nursing Officer.

”She and other trailblazers set the pace for women in the Air Force and shaped the ethos of military service in Nigeria.”

The Chief of Civil-Military Relations, AVM Edward Gabkwet, praised airwomen for consistently demonstrating excellence across all specialties.

Mr Gabkwet said the NAF female officers were not only excelling in their professional duties, but also vital contributors to family stability and community development.

According to him, their resilience and professionalism embody the air force’s core values of service before self and excellence in all we do.

He said, “We are committed to building an inclusive and supportive Air Force where every individual, regardless of gender, can thrive and contribute to national security and development.”

The event included seminars and discussions designed to reinforce mentorship, professional growth, and collaboration.
