The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control says it has a robust system to facilitate trade by ensuring that exported products meet international market standards.
Oluwaseyi Sanwoolu, at the Post-Inspection Directorate of the agency, stated this in Kaduna during a presentation at a sensitisation on Processing Export Applications for Stakeholders and NAFDAC officers in the North-West.
Ms Sanwoolu noted that if a product “is already registered with NAFDAC”, the inspection and approval process is faster.
Ms Sanwoolu added that NAFDAC issued 6 export certificates and that they faced challenges with the Rasff data.
“The Rasff challenge is a notification from the European Union on any defect identified; they send it back.
“The agency is scaling up sensitisation of stakeholders across the nation on exporters’ adherence to approved NAFDAC export procedures and fast-tracking NAFDAC processes to meet timelines.
“The agency is working with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Nigeria Customs Service, and other agencies to streamline the export process and reduce rejection rates,” Ms Sanwoolu assured.
NAFDAC’s director-general, Mojisola Adeyeye, said the agency was strictly enforcing regulations to prevent the export of unsafe, improperly packaged, or undocumented products, which have led to high rejection rates in international markets.
Ms Adeyeye urged workers to treat files that come their way in a timely and professional manner, as it reflects well on them and the agency.
