Lawmakers of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly have thrown their weight behind Senator Ahmed Wadada as their preferred candidate to succeed Governor Abdullahi Sule in 2027.
Speaker of the House, Danladi Jatau, announced the decision on Tuesday in Lafia, addressing journalists shortly after the 11th APC lawmakers’ caucus meeting.
Mr Jatau said the 11 APC legislators are united in their backing of Wadada, following the governor’s recent endorsement of the senator as his chosen successor.
He explained that the caucus meeting was convened to discuss party unity, peace, and progress, alongside the governor’s endorsement.
“We have discussed a range of issues involving unity, peace, and progress of the party, as well as the recent endorsement of Senator Ahmed Wadada by Governor Sule as his preferred successor,” Jatau said.
“We, as APC lawmakers, are united and will remain loyal to the party and follow the decision of the governor on his preferred successor.”
The speaker praised Governor Sule’s leadership, noting that he has effectively managed the affairs of the state. He reiterated that the lawmakers would fully support Wadada’s governorship ambition in 2027.
“This is because, during consultations by APC governorship aspirants, we made it clear that we would support any aspirant endorsed by the governor,” Jatau added.
He also appealed to other APC governorship hopefuls to accept the governor’s decision and rally behind Wadada in the interest of party unity.
“I urge all aspirants to support the governor’s preferred candidate, Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, and work together for the success of the party in 2027,” he said.
