NBC Affirms Ette Community Belongs to Kogi, Orders Enugu to Halt Activities

The National Boundary Commission (NBC) has affirmed that Ette Community falls within the administrative jurisdiction of Kogi State, putting to rest a decades-old boundary dispute between Enugu and Kogi states.

In a letter dated December 7, 2025, the NBC stated that a map on the Enugu and Kogi interstate boundary alignment forwarded to the states on July 14, 2025, puts Ette Community within Kogi State’s administrative jurisdiction.

The NBC has directed the Enugu State Government to suspend all activities of land encroachment, parcellation, fencing of land, and the proposed chieftaincy coronation scheduled for December 29, 2025. “The Commission hereby requests that you suspend all activities…to avoid any untoward incident,” the NBC stated.

The Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze North LGA, Enugu State, has confirmed the NBC’s directive and instructed all aides to adhere to it. “As a responsible government, Enugu State is aligned with the directives of the NBC, which is the body saddled with the responsibility to determine boundaries between states,” he said.

The NBC has urged the Kogi State Government to take immediate necessary steps to ensure the security and wellbeing of Ette Community. A statement noted that the letter affirms the jurisdiction of Anẹ Igala over Ete by the National Boundaries Commission, adding that Ete was wrongly ceded to Enugu State at the time of State creation.

Stakeholders are urging the Kogi State government to expedite action to provide security for the boundaries delineation. “Kogi State government should expedite action to provide security for the boundaries delineation,” the statement added.
