The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced a 45-day compliance window for telecommunications operators to regularise changes made to their shareholding structures without prior regulatory approval.
The directive applies to licensees that have altered more than 10 per cent of their ownership or control in violation of existing licensing requirements.
According to the commission, the measure is intended to strengthen transparency and enhance regulatory oversight across the telecommunications sector.
The NCC explained that the notice is anchored on Regulations 41, 42 and 43 of the Licensing Regulations 2019.
These provisions require all operators to seek and obtain the commission’s approval before implementing any significant change in shareholding or control.
The commission stressed that compliance with these regulations is critical to maintaining the integrity and stability of the industry.
While announcing the grace period, the NCC clarified that no penalties would be imposed for past infractions within the 45-day window.
It said the temporary relief is designed to encourage voluntary compliance by affected operators.
However, the commission warned that once the compliance window expires, strict enforcement actions would follow.
It stated that sanctions would be applied against non-compliant operators in accordance with the Nigerian Communications Enforcement Processes Regulations 2019.
The NCC further disclosed that the directive was issued under the powers granted to it by the Nigerian Communications Act 2003.
It added that the move underscores the commission’s commitment to orderly conduct, regulatory discipline and sustained confidence in Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.
