NDC Hails Peaceful Primaries, Presents Ekiti Candidates for 2027 Polls

The Ekiti State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally presented its candidates for the 2027 National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections following the successful conclusion of its primary process.

One of the party’s candidates, Dr. Ayodele David-Adesua, who secured the ticket for the Ekiti North I House of Representatives seat, commended party leaders, delegates and supporters for conducting what he described as a peaceful and orderly affirmation exercise.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Friday, David-Adesua said the process reflected the party’s commitment to transparency, accountability, youth development and effective representation. He expressed confidence that the NDC would perform strongly in the 2027 elections and secure several legislative positions across the state.

He also pledged to provide quality representation to the people of his constituency if elected, adding that the smooth conduct of the candidate selection process demonstrated the party’s organisational strength and readiness for the polls.

The party said the candidates emerged after a series of consultations, stakeholder engagements and strategic meetings involving NDC leaders across the South-West region.

The affirmation exercise followed a stakeholders’ meeting and aspirants’ dinner attended by key party officials, including Deputy National Chairman (South), Babatunde Alli, and South-West Zonal Chairman, Pastor Adedayo Ekong. The process produced consensus candidates for senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly seats in Ekiti State.

State Chairman Musa Arogundade said the consensus arrangement was adopted to strengthen internal cohesion, promote party democracy and position the NDC for electoral success in 2027.

The party unveiled Olu Alufa, Prince Adeyinka Alli and Dr. Ayokunle Ayodele as its senatorial candidates for Ekiti Central, Ekiti North and Ekiti South respectively.

For the House of Representatives, the party presented Babafemi Adegbite (Ekiti Central I), Modupe Adesola (Ekiti Central II), Ayodele David-Adesua (Ekiti North I), Temiyo Ajayi (Ekiti North II), Oluwashola Babalola (Ekiti South I) and Sunday Adebayo (Ekiti South II).

Candidates for the State House of Assembly were also unveiled.

Speaking at the event, Ekiti South senatorial candidate, Dr. Ayokunle Ayodele, described the process as a positive step for democratic development, saying the NDC offers a fresh alternative focused on rebuilding the country and restoring people-oriented governance.

Similarly, Ekiti North senatorial candidate, Prince Adeyinka Alli, praised the consensus model, describing it as evidence of unity and mature leadership within the party. He promised to prioritise youth empowerment, quality representation and policies that directly benefit the people.

House of Representatives candidate for Ekiti Central I, Babafemi Adegbite, also lauded the process, saying it demonstrated that credible leadership can emerge through fairness, dialogue and collective decision-making.

Party stakeholders expressed optimism that the emergence of consensus candidates would boost the NDC’s growing influence in Ekiti State and strengthen its challenge to established political parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

They called on party members, young people, professionals and supporters across the state to mobilise behind the candidates as the party pursues its agenda of rebuilding and repositioning Nigeria for inclusive growth and sustainable development.
