Former Kano State Governor and vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has distanced himself from reports suggesting that he is organising a nationwide protest over worsening insecurity in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Monday, Kwankwaso described the message circulating on social media as false and misleading, stressing that neither he nor his party had endorsed any protest plan.
He urged Nigerians to disregard the claims, warning against the spread of unverified information capable of misleading the public.
According to him, the NDC remains committed to lawful and peaceful engagement in addressing the country’s challenges and does not support actions that could threaten public peace or result in the destruction of lives and property.
Kwankwaso maintained that democratic institutions provide the appropriate avenue for citizens to express dissatisfaction and seek change, rather than resorting to protests that may escalate tensions.
He expressed confidence in the party’s chances in future elections, stating that political objectives would be pursued through constitutional and democratic processes.
The former governor reiterated his commitment to peaceful political participation and called on supporters to remain focused on lawful means of advancing their interests.
He also appealed to the public to ignore the viral message and refrain from sharing information that has not been verified.
