The youth wing of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State has thrown its weight behind the party’s governorship candidate, Chinyeaka Ohaa, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was made during the first executive meeting of the state NDC youth wing held in Enugu on Saturday.
Addressing members at the gathering, the state youth coordinator, Jideofor Ude, described Ohaa as an experienced public servant with a track record of service at both state and national levels.
Ude highlighted Ohaa’s previous roles, including her service as Accountant General of Enugu State, Permanent Secretary in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Pro-Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, among other positions.
He urged party members to remain united and support all NDC candidates, particularly Ohaa’s bid to become governor of the state in 2027.
The meeting was attended by the state party chairman, Ibuchukwu Obetta, alongside youth coordinators from the 17 local government areas of Enugu.
Ude praised Obetta’s leadership, describing his efforts as crucial to strengthening the party’s presence across the state. He also assured the chairman that the youth wing would continue to work with the party leadership to achieve its goals and expand its grassroots structures.
He said the youth wing would begin election-related activities in line with the timetable to be released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The coordinator called on all NDC candidates to partner with the youth body in mobilising supporters at the grassroots and encouraging greater youth participation in the electoral process.
He also tasked the local government coordinators with actively implementing party programmes and promoting youth involvement ahead of the elections.
Ude further encouraged members to contribute ideas and policy suggestions ahead of the planned NDC Youth Leadership Summit, where the group is expected to introduce programmes and initiatives for the 2027 election cycle.
In his remarks, Obetta commended the youth wing for its commitment and dedication to party activities, promising continued support for its operations.
He also spoke on the leadership crisis within the state chapter, saying efforts were ongoing through legal channels to resolve the dispute.
Obetta maintained that he remained the recognised chairman of the party’s Enugu chapter by the NDC national leadership and advised members to stay focused as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
The meeting ended with the presentation of appointment letters to the newly designated local government youth coordinators.
