NDLEA Launches ‘Operation Ramadan Mubarak’, Arrests 13 Suspects in Kano

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has launched ‘Operation Ramadan Mubarak’. The operation is a targeted enforcement exercise aimed at dismantling drug supply networks ahead of the Ramadan fasting period.

NDLEA said this in a statement on Friday.

It said the operation, led by the state commander, Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal, is designed to strengthen patrol checkpoints, dislodge drug joints within the Kano metropolis and its environment and block the inflow of illicit substances into Kano.

NDLEA disclosed that during the launch of the operation on Thursday, operatives carried out coordinated raids in the Kofar Mata area, Danzaki Village, Fagge, Kofar Wambai and Rimi area.

According to him, the raids led to the arrest of 13 suspects, including two females, and the recovery of assorted illicit substances such as cannabis sativa, diazepam, “suck and die” and rubber solution.

Mr Yahaya-Lawal said the operation reflected the command’s determination to prevent drug traffickers from exploiting the Ramadan period to circulate illicit drugs.

“Operation Ramadan Mubarak is intelligence-driven and proactive. Our objective is to protect worshippers, families and communities from the dangers associated with drug abuse and to ensure that Kano remains peaceful and secure during the sacred period,” he said.

He expressed concern that some criminal elements often target residents during Ramadan, noting that the abuse of illicit drugs frequently contributes to violent and opportunistic crimes.

Mr Yahaya-Lawal added that in line with directives from the chairman/chief executive officer of the NDLEA, Mohamed Buba-Marwa, the command would intensify patrols, reinforce checkpoints and sustain intelligence-led operations to guarantee safety and peaceful coexistence.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or information on drug trafficking to the nearest NDLEA office or through official communication channels.

The commander said that sustained community collaboration was vital to protecting public health, religious observances and the general well-being of residents.
