The Taraba State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 45-year-old suspect after recovering more than one metric tonne of cannabis sativa during an operation in the state.
The arrest followed a sting operation carried out in Maihula town, Bali Local Government Area, based on intelligence gathered by the agency. During a search of the suspect’s warehouse, operatives discovered 63 jumbo bags of cannabis weighing approximately 1,121.5 kilograms.
The state NDLEA Commander, Javanson Kwalma, described the seizure as a major achievement in the agency’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and abuse.
He said the operation, conducted on June 13, 2026, led to the arrest of Ali Adamu, who is currently in the agency’s custody. According to him, investigations are underway to trace the origin of the drugs and identify other individuals connected to the operation before prosecution begins.
Kwalma noted that intercepting such a large quantity of cannabis would prevent illicit drugs from reaching communities, particularly young people who are often the most vulnerable to substance abuse.
He commended the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.), Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Department of State Services, the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, and members of the public for their cooperation and support.
The commander also urged residents to continue providing useful information on drug-related activities, stressing that community collaboration remains vital in the fight against illicit drug trafficking.
