Netizens Knock Nigerian Cleric Kingsley Okonkwo for Charging N700,000 to Link Single Men, Women

Relationship coach and lead pastor of David’s Christian Centre, Kingsley Okonkwo, has invented a hook-up “Mentor to Marry” platform where he charges between N70,000 and N700,000 to link single men and women.

The cleric in a tweet on Tuesday urged interested men who “are not rich” or desire to “meet godly well mentored ladies from all over the world” to join his paid platform.

The lead pastor, who launched the paid matchmaking site offering different membership packages, decried how ladies had turned relationships into money-making affairs.

“I feel for the men of this generation….relationships have been so commercialised nowadays that its almost impossible for a young man to find true love,” Mr Okonkwo tweeted.

“If you are a guy and feel relationships are out of your reach because you are not rich or you just want to meet godly well mentored ladies from all over the world then you have to join.”

“I can assure you that not all women are in relationship for business, there are a lot of good women looking to connect with serious godly men on our platform, just visit (the) link in bio to sign up,” the pastor said.

Checks by the Peoples Gazette showed that the Mentor to Marry hook-up platform offered three different price tiers and 12-month duration packages.

According to the site, single and searching men can obtain a godly woman by choosing any of the “Regular, Premium and VIP (Most Popular)” packages on the hook-up platform.

Subscribers to the regular package costing N70,000 down from N100,000, would have access to an “8-week mentoring classes, browse limited profiles, accountability system, country-based matching pool and the MTM guided preparation journey.”

Premium-tier subscribers are to pay a discounted sum of N350,000, down from N500,000, to enjoy “everything in regular priority access,” as well as “access to coaches, monthly profile recommendations, access to private groups and access to unlimited profiles.”

The cleric offered a final exclusive VIP package priced at N700,000 to subscribers who enjoy access to “everything in premium priority, access to PK & PM dedicated matchmaker and coach, browse unlimited profiles, off platform introductions and access to global profiles.”

The platform is described as “a guided marriage-preparation and matching community for serious Christian singles who desire intentional, Kingdom-minded marriages.”

Several netizens have however expressed concerns over the initiative.

An X user, @heisam001, faulted Mr Okonkwo for turning Christianity and relationships into a subscription business.

“Pastor, the irony is almost too beautiful. You’re complaining that relationships have become commercialised while you pastors have turned Christianity itself into a subscription business,” the user stated.

“Your ‘godly’ relationship solution: ₦700,000. And then you have the audacity to lecture young people about commercialisation? You people sell Jesus, salvation, prophecy, marriage, deliverance, hope and now relationship, then hide the price tag behind the word ‘ministry.”

“If Jesus is the product, pastors are the sales department. If suffering is the market, desperation is the customer base. And if ₦700,000 is the price of a supposed ‘godly’ relationship that can end for the most idiotic reasons, please stop pretending you’re fighting commercialisation,” he stated.

“How can a man who’s not rich afford 700k for your “mentorship.” Pastor Kingsley, doesn’t this fall under your ministry. What is godly about this??? Shouldn’t you be overjoyed to see your members get married, thrive and live well in their marriages??? Why does it come at a cost??” another user, @somto_babey tweeted.
