The Nigerian government has launched a new online system for applying for passports. The system is called the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) e-Passport Portal.
Requirements
To use the new system, you must meet the following requirements:
Be a Nigerian citizen
Have a National Identification Number (NIN)
Have a passport photograph that meets the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards
Have your birth certificate and local government certificate of indigeneship
Five Steps to Apply
Visit the NIS e-Passport Portal:Â https://passport.immigration.gov.ng/
Enter your NIN to autocomplete your data from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC)
Complete other data sections such as applicant’s date of birth
Upload your passport photo and other required documents
Select the nearest immigration office and a date for centre availability will be recommended to you
Biometrics
After you have completed the online application, you will need to visit an immigration office for biometric capture.
Passport Delivery
The Nigerian government is also working on a system for delivering passports to applicants’ homes or offices. This system is expected to be launched in February 2024.
