The Federal Republic of Nigeria has called for immediate global action to de-escalate the escalating violence in the Israel-Palestine conflict, resulting in the loss of numerous civilian lives. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, urged the international community to support President Joe Biden’s ceasefire proposal to end the conflict.
“The Biden Ceasefire proposal should be embraced by world leaders…to intensify efforts towards a speedy resolution of the conflict, and the immediate cessation of…violence in Gaza and all other innocent civilians affected,” Ambassador Tuggar stated.
Statement by the Special Assistant
to the minister on Media and Communications Strategy, Alkasim Abdulkadir, expressed Nigeria’s concern that the ongoing violence sets a dangerous precedent for the international justice system and emphasized that justice and revenge are mutually exclusive.
The country pledged its support to the United States in achieving a complete cessation of violence and an end to the humanitarian crisis.
President Biden’s proposal includes a permanent ceasefire, increased humanitarian aid, hostage release, and a reconstruction plan to rebuild infrastructure. Nigeria believes this plan is the best way forward for all parties involved and can prevent further tragic losses, such as the deaths of over 200 people at the Nuseirat refugee camp on June 8.
The call for urgent global action and support for the Biden ceasefire proposal demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to promoting peace and justice in the region.
