Nigerian youths have been asked to recommit themselves to nation-building and the development of a more united and prosperous Nigeria.
The Speaker of the Edo Youth Parliament, Fawaz Muhammad, gave the advice in his Independence Day message on Tuesday.
Muhammad laid emphasis on the sacrifices made by past generations to secure the freedom, unity, and peace of the country, emphasising the importance of youth leadership in building on that foundation.
“I extend my warmest congratulations to all Nigerians, particularly the nation’s youth, both at home and in the diaspora. Nigerian youths must recommit themselves to nation-building and the development of a more united and prosperous Nigeria.
“I commend the people’s resilience, determination, and contributions to the country’s progress and the critical role they play in shaping Nigeria’s future.
“I am using this opportunity to remind the nation of the sacrifices made by past generations to secure the freedom, unity, and peace we enjoy today. It is also important to emphasize youth leadership in building on that foundation.
“Our youths have continued to make us proud across the globe, excelling in various fields—technology, sports, entertainment, entrepreneurship, leadership, and academia. This is our moment to lead with vision and purpose.”
He stated that at 64, Nigeria stands at a crossroads, with tremendous opportunities as well as challenges, noting that It is up to the younger generation, to rise to the occasion and drive the future of this country toward justice, equity, and good governance.
He added, “Our strength lies in our diversity, creativity, and resilience. Together, we can surmount any challenges if we remain focused on the principles of democracy, peace, and progress.
“Let us continue to be the driving force for positive change and together, we will build the Nigeria of our dreams. God bless the youth, God bless Edo State, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
