Jalingo, Taraba State – January 16, 2025 – Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have apprehended a suspected gunrunner, Alhaji Adamu Usman, and seized an illegally fabricated submachine gun.
The operation led to the discovery of the weapon at the suspect’s residence in Maraban Gassol, located in Gassol Local Government Area.
The Acting Assistant Director of Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, Captain Olubodunde Oni, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to journalists in Jalingo.
According to the statement, the operation was conducted on January 13, 2025, following credible intelligence about the suspect’s involvement in illegal arms trafficking.
“During a search of the suspect’s residence, troops discovered one fabricated submachine gun, which is believed to be connected to illegal arms trafficking activities,” Captain Oni stated.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, praised the troops for their professionalism and swift action in executing the operation.
He assured the public of the brigade’s commitment to maintaining peace and combating the spread of illegal weapons in Taraba State.
“We urge members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies to help address security challenges effectively,” Brigadier General Uwa added.
The successful operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to tackle arms proliferation and ensure the security of local communities.
