The First lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has officially launched the distribution of professional kits, including crocs and scrubs, to midwives in the North Eastern Sub Region of the country.
The event took place on Thursday, 10th of April 2025 at the Gym Hall of the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
In her remarks during the ceremony, Senator Tinubu emphasized that this initiative complements the Federal Government’s commitment to training frontline health workers to strengthen the national healthcare system.”Approximately 60,000 professional kits have been procured, with each zone of the country set to receive 10,000 kits.
“Taraba State was selected to host the distribution in the northeastern subregion.
According to her, the purpose of the initiative, Senator Tinubu stressed the need for collaborative efforts to enhance the health sector and reduce infant and maternal mortality rates across Nigeria.
“This program is part of the Health agenda of the Renewed Hope Initiative and is aimed specifically at supporting student midwives.
In addition to the kits, the First Lady announced a donation of 50 million naira to the wife of the Governor of Taraba State, intended to assist 1,000 traders, providing each with 50,000 naira.
Speaking, the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, commended the First Lady for her generosity toward the northeastern region. He mentioned that his administration’s five-finger agenda aligns with the Renewed Hope Initiative launched by the First Lady.
On her part, the First lady of Taraba State, Mrs. Agyin Kefas, described the donation as a significant milestone and assured that the professional kits would be utilized effectively.
The Minister of Health, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, and the Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Muyi Aina, both acknowledged that the donation exemplifies the First Lady’s commitment to improving the healthcare system in Nigeria.
He pointed out that health is a key priority for President Tinubu’s administration.
Present at the event were Hajiya Nana Shettima, the wife of the Vice President, as well as the wives of various State Governors and Service Chiefs amongst other top dignitaries.
