ABUJA, NIGERIA – Popular online market vendor, MayOnoja Ufedo, has sparked outrage online after alleging she was sexually harassed by a male client who insisted she deliver his order personally. In a series of social media posts, Ufedo recounted the experience, detailing how the client pressured her to come to his office instead of allowing her to send a delivery rider.
According to Ufedo, upon arrival at the client’s office, the man, described as an older man with grown children, made inappropriate advances towards her. The alleged harassment reached a new low when the man, according to Ufedo, offered her money in exchange for sexual favors. Feeling trapped and humiliated, Ufedo revealed she narrowly escaped physical violence thanks to unforeseen circumstances.
The incident has garnered significant attention online, with many expressing support for Ufedo and condemning the client’s actions. Hashtags like #MayOnojaStrong and #StopMarketPlaceHarassment are trending, highlighting the prevalence of sexual harassment faced by women in the online marketplace.
Ufedo’s story has also reignited calls for stricter regulations and reporting mechanisms within online platforms to protect vendors, particularly women, from similar experiences.
