Nigeria’s Education Reforms Receive Global Recognition Ahead of GPE Summit

Nigeria’s ongoing education reforms have attracted international recognition ahead of the upcoming Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Summit, with Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, receiving commendation from the organisation’s board chairman and former Tanzanian President, Jakaya Kikwete.
‎
‎The commendation was delivered during a meeting between both leaders, according to a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Ikharo Attah.
‎
‎Kikwete praised the progress being made in Nigeria’s education sector, describing the reforms as a clear demonstration of the country’s determination to improve learning outcomes and build a stronger education system.
‎
‎He congratulated Alausa for driving the reforms and expressed confidence in the success of the forthcoming GPE Summit scheduled for September.
‎
‎The former Tanzanian president also acknowledged Nigeria’s growing influence within the Global Partnership for Education, noting that Alausa’s position on the GPE Board reflects the country’s active contribution to shaping global education policies and expanding access to quality education.
‎
‎In his response, Alausa thanked Kikwete for his longstanding contributions to education and leadership development across Africa and the world.
‎
‎He praised the former president’s commitment to promoting foundational education and nurturing future African leaders, describing his efforts as an inspiration for sustainable development and transformational leadership.
‎
‎The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to implementing education reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through strategic partnerships, increased investment and evidence-based policies.
‎
‎He added that the Ministry of Education would continue working closely with the GPE to develop an inclusive, resilient and future-ready education system for Nigerian learners.
‎
‎President Tinubu is expected to co-chair the forthcoming GPE Summit alongside Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
‎
‎The summit aims to mobilise greater international funding and deepen global partnerships to advance access to quality education worldwide.
