NIMC DG Praises Online Editors for Boosting NIN Awareness
The Director General of the Nigerian Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr (Dr) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has praised the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) for their significant contribution to raising awareness about the agency’s initiatives, particularly the ongoing National Identity Number (NIN) enrollments across the country.
During a courtesy visit from ACOE, Engr Odusote emphasized that the collaborative and strategic media partnership with the online editors is invaluable. “We would like to use this opportunity to express our gratitude for your consistent support during our collaborative meetings, including workshops and various engagements,” said Mrs. Rhoda Jackden, Director of Human Capital Management Department, representing Engr Odusote.
The NIMC DG highlighted the agency’s notable accomplishments, including improvements in staff welfare, effective administration, and increased NIN enrollment. “Last year alone, we have trained no less than 3,700 staff across various levels, including management training, to ensure that everyone is adequately prepared for their roles at NIMC,” Jackden noted.
ACOE Chairman Sola Akingboye commended Engr Odusote’s transformative leadership, citing significant milestones achieved under her guidance, including a 40% decrease in extortion and unauthorized fees at enrollment centers, and the resolution of a backlog of payments owed to Front-End Partners (FEPs).
“We acknowledge the DG’s emphasis on internal reforms and staff morale, which includes the implementation of a 25-30% salary increase, sanctioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as the promotion of over 3,000 staff members,” Akingboye said.
The online editors pledged to continue supporting NIMC’s mandate, emphasizing the importance of ethical journalism and responsible digital storytelling. “In the current digital age, perception influences policy impact. Our editors possess the skills necessary to convert technical reforms into accessible, citizen-oriented narratives that foster public trust,” Akingboye noted.
The visit concluded with the presentation of ACOE’s muffler to Engr Odusote, symbolizing the strong media relationship between the editors and the agency.
