The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has recorded a major institutional milestone with the approval of its scheme of service by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF).
The commission described the approval as the first in its history as it would provide a formal framework to guide career progression, staff development and operational structure within the organisation.
This is contained in a statement on Friday in Abuja, by its Head of Corporate Communications, Dr Kayode Adegoke.
According to Adegoke, the scheme of service is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and improve service delivery in line with its mandate.
“The framework outlines the various staff cadres, conditions for advancement, job descriptions, qualification requirements and professional standards applicable across the commission.
“It also aligns with existing Public Service Rules and other guidelines governing the federal civil service.”
Speaking at the presentation of the approved document, Mr Imirhe Nwagolo, Deputy Director in charge of Scheme of Service at the OHCSF’s Organisational Design Department, lauded NIMC for successfully meeting the requirements for the approval.
He said that only a limited number of federal government agencies currently operated with a dedicated scheme of service.
Also speaking, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Mrs Rhoda Jackden, described the approval as a significant step in the commission’s growth.
She expressed appreciation to the OHCSF for the support and pledged the commission’s commitment to implementing the provisions of the scheme.
Jackden said the new framework would provide greater clarity in career development and contribute to improved efficiency across the organisation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the approved scheme introduces Enrolment, Card and Commercial Cadres to complement the existing structure of the commission.
The development it is believed will support NIMC’s efforts to build a more professional workforce and enhance the delivery of identity management services nationwide.
