Members of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA in Cross River State have withdrawn their services in protest over the abduction of their member, Prof. Ekanem Ephraim by armed kidnappers last week.
A statement by the Chairman of the NMA in the state, Dr Felix Archibong said the drastic measure became imperative to register the displeasure of the body over the incessant abductions of its members in the state in recent years.
He explained that step would also compel the government not only to expedite rescue efforts but most importantly, to rejig the security architecture of the state to curtail the menace of kidnappers which has become a recurring decimal.
Summit Post News recalled that the renowned professor of neurology who is a lead consultant at the University of Calabar UCTH, was whisked away from her residence last week Thursday by gunmen posing as patients in dire need of medical care.
Police spoke person, SP Irene Ukpo who confirmed the development, also revealed that the command has activated its tactical team to track down the kidnappers and ensure the safe release of Prof Ephraim.
