NNPP Alleges Kwankwaso Still Influencing Party After Exit

Kwankwaso Threatens Exit From NDC Over Kano Candidate Replacement Dispute

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has alleged that its former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is still influencing the party’s internal affairs despite no longer being a member.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ogini Olaposi, claimed that Kwankwaso continues to exert control through loyalists who remain within the NNPP.

According to the party, the former Kano State governor is not only seeking political dominance within the NDC in Kano State but is also allegedly using his supporters to sustain legal disputes involving the NNPP.

The statement alleged that members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement left behind by Kwankwaso are continuing litigation initiated during his time with the party.

The NNPP further argued that Kwankwaso’s political influence in Kano has weakened, claiming that many of his key associates and political allies have since defected to the APC.

It urged the NDC to recognise what it described as the decline of Kwankwaso’s political structure, insisting that the network which once gave him significant influence in Kano no longer exists in its previous form.

The party also accused Kwankwaso and elder statesman Buba Galadima of betraying the confidence of the NNPP’s founding members while allegedly attempting to regain control of the party through various political manoeuvres.

Warning the NDC against allowing Kwankwaso to wield excessive influence, the NNPP described such a move as “political suicide,” citing what it said was its own experience.

The party maintained that both Kwankwaso and Galadima, whom it described as expelled members, would not be welcomed back into the NNPP. It also called on the Chairman of INEC to comply with existing court orders to ensure a smooth electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
