NNPP Backs Women, Allocates 50% of 2027 Legislative Tickets to Female Candidates in Osun

The Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has pledged stronger inclusion of women in politics, describing them as capable, courageous, and vital to effective governance.

The party announced that 50 per cent of its National Assembly and State Assembly tickets for the 2027 general elections have been reserved for female candidates, as part of efforts to promote gender balance in political representation.

This was disclosed by the Osun NNPP Chairman, Tosin Odeyemi, during the party’s primary elections held at its secretariat in Osogbo, where candidates for both legislative levels were presented and affirmed.

Odeyemi said the decision reflects the party’s recognition of women’s role in mobilisation, governance, and electoral success, adding that they remain central to the NNPP’s political strategy.

He added that beyond elective positions, women would also be considered for key appointments in government if the party wins future elections, while those in business would receive supportive policies under its administration.

According to him, the NNPP is positioning itself as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that Nigerians are growing weary of unfulfilled promises from past administrations.

He urged all party candidates to focus on issue-based campaigns and avoid political attacks, stressing the importance of credibility and integrity in their messaging.

Speaking on behalf of other candidates, the NNPP Osun West Senatorial candidate, Folasayo Makinde, called on women to take a more assertive role in politics and stop being used only as support during campaigns.

She noted that women are often relied upon for mobilisation but sidelined after elections, praising the party for creating what she described as an enabling platform for female participation.

Makinde also expressed confidence in the capacity of women to contribute meaningfully to national development, urging voters in Osun West to support her candidacy.
