No Child Will Be Left Behind in Kano’s Development Agenda, Gov. Yusuf Vows

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano has reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that every child in the state has access to quality education, healthcare, protection and equal opportunities, declaring that no child should be left behind in Kano’s development agenda.

The governor made the declaration in a message to mark the 2026 International Children’s Day celebration, themed “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child.” The message was delivered on his behalf by the Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo.

Speaking during the commemoration, Mr Garo emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive society where every child, irrespective of gender, disability, religion, socioeconomic status or geographical location, is given the opportunity to thrive and achieve their full potential.

According to him, the Yusuf administration recognizes children as the foundation of sustainable development and the future leaders of society, making their welfare a top priority of government.

He said the state government remains committed to implementing policies and programmes aimed at improving the lives of children and ensuring that no child is excluded from developmental opportunities.

“We continue to invest in education, strengthen child protection mechanisms, improve healthcare services, and create an environment where every child can learn, thrive, and realize their full potential,” Mr Garo stated.

The deputy governor noted that special attention is being given to vulnerable groups, including children living with disabilities, out-of-school children and those facing various forms of social and economic disadvantages.

He explained that the government is working closely with communities, civil society organisations, traditional institutions and development partners to remove barriers that limit children’s participation in society and hinder their development.

“We are particularly committed to supporting vulnerable children, including children with disabilities, out-of-school children, and those facing various forms of disadvantage.

“Through collaboration with communities, civil society organizations, traditional institutions, and development partners, we are working to remove barriers that hinder children’s participation and development,” he said.

Addressing the children directly, Mr Garo encouraged them to remain focused on their aspirations and embrace values that would help them become responsible citizens.

“Your voices matter, your talents are valuable, and your future is bright. Never allow circumstances to limit your aspirations,” he said, urging them to dream big, work hard and uphold the virtues of honesty, respect and patriotism.

The deputy governor also called on parents, guardians, teachers and other stakeholders to continue providing children with the guidance, support and opportunities needed for their growth and success.

“Together, we can build a society where every child feels valued, protected and included,” he said.

He further stressed the need for collective action in promoting and protecting the rights of children, urging Nigerians to renew their commitment to creating a country where every child can contribute meaningfully to national development.

“As we celebrate this special day, let us renew our collective commitment to creating a Nigeria where every child can enjoy their rights and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he added.

Mr Garo wished children across Kano State and Nigeria a joyful and memorable International Children’s Day celebration, while reaffirming the administration’s dedication to policies that promote inclusion, equity and opportunities for all children.
