Nollywood actor and former House of Representatives candidate, Emeka Ike, has vowed to take action against Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the alleged disclosure of his personal voter information.
Ike, who contested the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency seat in the FCT under the Nigerian Democratic Congress, lost in the election but has since become embroiled in a controversy surrounding his voter registration details.
The dispute began after Olayinka shared a post on X claiming that Ike had only recently transferred his voter registration from Imo State to the FCT. In the post, Olayinka questioned the actor’s eligibility to seek elective office in Abuja, noting that the transfer reportedly occurred on May 15, 2026.
Accompanying the post were screenshots that appeared to show information from an administrative page linked to the Independent National Electoral Commission. The images reportedly contained sensitive details, including Ike’s voter identification number, application number, registration centre, profile photograph, and application date.
The publication brought about criticism from social media users, many of whom raised concerns about the source of the information and the privacy implications of accessing and sharing such records.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Tuesday, Ike condemned the incident, describing it as an abuse of power and a serious violation of citizens’ privacy.
He argued that no public official should have unrestricted access to personal electoral data, warning that such actions create a dangerous precedent and undermine public confidence in institutions.
According to him, he is prepared to challenge Olayinka over the alleged breach, insisting that his personal information should not have been exposed without authorisation.
The actor also defended his decision to contest in the FCT rather than his home state of Imo. He explained that he initially intended to run in Imo but changed course after receiving strong encouragement from supporters in Abuja who urged him to represent their interests.
Ike said the appeals from residents convinced him to focus on the development of the nation’s capital, prompting his relocation to the FCT political scene.
