Oganenenigu Youths for Peace and Development Foundation Calls on Governor Ododo for Urgent Intervention in Oganenigu Community Crisis

PRESS RELEASE

By Comrade Husseini A Aloko
6th May 2026.

The Oganenenigu Youths for Peace and Development Foundation has called on the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, to urgently intervene and provide lasting solutions to the ongoing crisis involving herders in the Oganenenigu community.

This appeal follows a tragic incident on May 5, 2026, when suspected armed herders attacked Edede community, resulting in the death of one resident and the destruction of homes and properties.

The attack has left many residents homeless and displaced, forcing them to seek refuge in neighboring communities as internally displaced persons.

The Foundation expressed deep concern over the growing insecurity in the area and emphasized the need for immediate government action to prevent further loss of lives and property.

They urged the state government and relevant authorities to deploy adequate security measures, ensure justice for the victims, and restore peace to the affected community.

In addition, the group called on elected representatives and relevant agencies to provide urgent relief materials, including food, shelter, and medical support, to those affected by the attack.

The Foundation commended the people of Oganenenigu community for their restraint and commitment to peace, noting that despite the provocation, they have remained law-abiding and have not resorted to violence.

“We appeal to the government to act swiftly and decisively to address this crisis and ensure lasting peace in our communities,” the statement read.

The Oganenenigu Youths for Peace and Development Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, unity, and sustainable development across the community.
