The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced Alhaja Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun, a chartered accountant and daughter of industrialist Alhaji Adebola Adegunwa, as the party’s deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
Governor Dapo Abiodun made the announcement on Sunday during the APC Strategic Caucus Meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, stating that the choice followed broad consultations with party leaders and stakeholders across the state.
Adegunwa-Balogun will contest alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
Her nomination comes after the deputy governorship position was zoned to Ogun East Senatorial District and further allocated to the Ijebu Central Federal Constituency.
The 51-year-old finance professional currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director of Finance and Administration at Rite Foods Limited. Her selection is widely seen as a strategic effort to boost the APC’s appeal among professionals, women, and voters in Ogun East ahead of the 2027 polls.
Speaking at the event, Governor Abiodun praised party members for maintaining unity throughout the primary elections, describing the process as one of the smoothest in the state’s political history. He noted that the APC produced its candidates without major disputes, court cases, or internal divisions.
He also commended aspirants who stepped aside for the interest of party unity, saying their sacrifices strengthened the APC ahead of the elections.
Explaining the choice of Adegunwa-Balogun, the governor said the decision was guided by fairness and equity.
“If the governorship is coming from Ogun West, we believed the deputy governorship should come from Ogun East,” he said, expressing confidence that she would serve effectively if elected.
Senator Adeola also praised his running mate, describing her as a seasoned professional with the leadership experience needed to support the administration and contribute to the state’s development.
In her acceptance speech, Adegunwa-Balogun described the nomination as a call to public service and pledged to use her more than three decades of corporate leadership experience to advance Ogun State.
She said her exposure to governance since 1999 had provided valuable insight into public administration and service delivery.
According to her, the nomination represents greater inclusion for women, youths, and grassroots communities, adding that governance should reflect the needs of all citizens and ensure that development benefits everyone.
She also promised to serve with integrity, accountability, and transparency while working closely with Adeola to strengthen grassroots participation in government.
