Residents of Ogun State have called on candidates seeking the presidency in the 2027 general election to make security, economic recovery and stable electricity supply their top priorities if elected.
Speaking on the nation’s challenges, the residents expressed concern over worsening insecurity and economic hardship, saying many Nigerians now struggle to feel safe and maintain a decent standard of living.
They noted that rising inflation, unemployment and declining purchasing power have continued to place heavy burdens on citizens, while persistent security threats have left many people fearful in their communities.
An engineer, Tajudeen Bamidele, said although several political parties have produced presidential candidates, he remains unconvinced that the opposition can effectively challenge the ruling APC due to internal divisions and factional disputes.
According to him, Nigerians are more interested in solutions to pressing national problems than political rhetoric. He recalled President Bola Tinubu’s pledge to improve electricity supply and urged whoever emerges victorious in 2027 to focus on ending insecurity, hunger and economic hardship.
Bamidele stressed that citizens want practical policies that will improve living conditions and restore confidence in governance.
Another resident, computer analyst Seun Sekoni, said the country needs a leader who is accountable and capable of addressing security challenges. He lamented that successive administrations had made numerous promises that were never fulfilled.
Sekoni added that regardless of which candidate eventually wins the election, tackling insecurity should be the foremost priority, alongside measures to curb inflation and reduce the cost of living.
Also speaking, a trader, Monsurat Akindele, urged political leaders to treat insecurity as an urgent national concern. She expressed disappointment over the continued captivity of schoolchildren abducted in Oyo State, saying such incidents highlight the need for stronger security measures.
Akindele further called on the next president to implement policies that would ease economic hardship and address the growing problem of hunger across the country.
The residents maintained that beyond campaign promises, Nigerians are looking for leaders who can deliver tangible improvements in security, economic stability and overall quality of life.
