Nigeria’s Super Eagles are through to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following a dominant 4-0 win over the Mambas of Mozambique in a round of 16 clash at the Fes Sports Complex on Monday night.
The Eagles quickly took the lead in the 20th minute through Ademola Lookman, who fired home a cut back pass from Akor Adams. Nigeria doubled the advantage four minutes later after Victor Osimhen tapped home a cross by Lookman.
Barely two minutes into the second half, Osimhen further extended Nigeria’s advantage after the Galatasaray forward slotted home another cross by Lookman from close range to make it 3-0.
Moments later, Bright Osayi-Samuel almost made it 4-0 from a pass from Lookman but the effort narrowly missed its target.
Osimhen was subbed off in the 68th minute after the forward strangely stopped taking part in action following what appeared to be an on-field disagreement with Lookman.
He was subsequently replaced by Moses Simon.
Adams sealed the victory for Nigeria in the 75th minute after the Sevilla man controlled a pass from Lookman before latching the ball into the roof net to steer the three-time African champions into the last eight.
Nigeria will face the winner of the round of 16 match between Algeria and Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday to know their opponent in the quarterfinals.
