Osun Gov Poll: Oyebamiji Promises Reforms in Power, Education, Healthcare

The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in the August 15 Osun State election, Bola Oyebamiji, has pledged to prioritise power generation, education and healthcare if elected governor.

Speaking on Sunday during a meeting with the leadership of the Osun Muslim Community in Osogbo, Oyebamiji also promised to strengthen security across the state, describing safety as essential to economic growth and commercial activities.

The former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority said a team of experts had developed policy initiatives aimed at boosting the state’s economy and improving residents’ quality of life.

According to him, the proposals focus on key sectors including education, healthcare, power generation, agriculture and workers’ welfare.

“My decision to contest for the governorship seat was deliberate and intentional and like I have said in different fora, we have put a team in place to look at the various sectors with a view to making immediate intervention, especially in power generation, education, healthcare delivery and agriculture among others with the intention to engender economic growth,” Oyebamiji said.

He added: “We will be fair, just and ensure equitable distribution of resources across the various towns of the state. I am a bonafide Muslim who has never mixed anything with Islam and I am confident in Him that I will come victorious come August 15th, 2026.”

Earlier, the President of the Osun State Muslim Community, Mustapha Olawuyi, described Oyebamiji as a committed Muslim and humanitarian, saying he had consistently supported the Muslim community over the years.

“I must say that Oyebamiji is known to us as a good Muslim whose immense contributions to the propagation of Islam, Muslim Ummah and humanity can not be quantified,” Olawuyi said.

“Like I said earlier, we are not partisan as an Islamic body, and we are working assiduously for the progress of humanity in general and propagation of our faith.”

Osun state voters will head to the polls on August 15, 2026, to elect a governor from 14 candidates cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Oyebamiji is contesting on the platform of the APC, while incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking a second term under the Accord Party after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party.

The election is expected to be one of the most closely watched off-cycle governorship contests in Nigeria.
