Outrage As Opponents Of Dekina/Bassa APC Reps Candidate Unleashe Campaign Of Calumny
As voters in Dekina/Bassa federal constituency of Kogi State head to polls this weekend, politicians have been advised to shun campaigns of calumny and name-calling against their opponents.
This call is against the backdrop of the outrage that has continued to trail the latest campaign of calumny, unleashed by the opponents of Dekina/Bassa All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Hon Paul Gowon Haruna.
It would be recalled that fictitious report emanated from some online news media, claiming that Hon Haruna was stockpiling and arming militia group in order to cause mayhem during this weekend’s presidential and legislative election.
In another of such malicious report, Hon Haruna was quoted as clamouring for another eight years for a governor of Kogi Central (Ebira) extraction.
While these spurious allegations deserved no response, it is important to clarify these dubious claims for posterity sake and also to buttress the fact that these allegations are mere tantrums being orchestrated by drawning politicians.
Suffice it to clarify that politics is a game of fair debates or battle of ideas, not mud slinging, character assassination and other mundane cleavages.
A member of Hon Haruna’s campaign team, who pleaded anonymity described the two allegations as preposterous, malicious and laughable, saying they are the handiwork of scrupulous elements, who, for fear of defeat are beginning to throw tantrums to justify their woeful performance.
“I am surprised at their diversionary tactics. They are only spewing these baseless allegations to justify why they were defeated.
“They’re facing imminent defeat. Nothing can stop Hon Paul Gowon Haruna (Alias IJN) from winning these election. I would have been surprised if it’s anything to the contrary. Record speaks for themselves. Haruna’s antecedents are verifiable. There’s no need for all these broughaha. Market yourself and let IJN market himself, by the weekend, we shall hand them a crushing defeat.”
A respondent, who expressed disgust at how low electioneering campaign has gone, wondered why politicians are not engaging in issue-based campaigns, which would address the topmost challenges of insecurity, economy, among others facing the federal constituency.
The conduct of some politicians so far seemed to be derailing the rule of decency contrary to the guidelines provided by the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC.
The former Kogi State House Assembly member, Hon Paul Gowon Haruna of the APC would this weekend lock horn with Comr Austin Okai of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) to represent Dekina/Bassa at the Green Chambers.
