PAAU Senate Commends Vice-chancellor With a Standing Ovation for Restoring Peace, Serenity on Campus

The Senate of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has given a standing ovation to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, for his outstanding work ethics and commitment which have restored peace and serenity on campus.

The commendation came at the Senate emergency meeting held on Tuesday, 7 July 2026, at the University Auditorium, where members unanimously applauded the Vice-Chancellor and the entire University Management for the proactive measures that have restored peace, strengthened security and created a stable academic environment across the University.

Describing the prevailing atmosphere as one the University had not witnessed in a long time, members of the Senate rose in a standing ovation in honour of the Vice-Chancellor. The Senate members also reaffirmed their collective commitment to supporting the Management in its efforts to reposition the University for greater excellence.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, expressed profound appreciation to members of the Senate, noting that the recognition belonged not only to him but also the University Management, the Senate and every member of the University community whose commitment and sacrifices had made the achievements possible.

He stressed that the progress recorded so far was a product of teamwork, unity of purpose and shared responsibility.

Professor Usman reaffirmed his administration’s determination to position Prince Abubakar Audu University as a globally competitive institution while remaining committed to producing graduates distinguished in both character and learning.

He stressed that the transformation of the University remained “a task to the finish” and assured members of the Senate that his administration would continue to pursue policies that promote academic excellence, institutional discipline and quality service delivery.

On academic integrity, the Vice-Chancellor informed the Senate of the case involving Dr. Maji Okpanachi of the Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, who was reportedly apprehended with students writing examinations in his apartment.

He disclosed that the matter had been referred to the reconstituted Examination Misconduct Committee for a comprehensive investigation and appropriate recommendations in accordance with the University’s regulations.

The Vice-Chancellor also commended the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Abiodun Ige, members of the Examination Monitoring and Security Committee, as well as other staff involved in the conduct of the Second Semester Examinations, for their professionalism, vigilance and exemplary performance.

He further expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his unwavering support for the University. He equally acknowledged the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, CON, for his continued encouragement and commitment to the growth and development of the institution.

Meanwhile, the Senate has approved the proposal for the establishment of the Centre for Continuing Education, subject to the final ratification of the University Council. The Centre is expected to expand access to quality education and create additional opportunities for lifelong learning.

Senate also approved the Undergraduate Academic Calendar for the 2026/2027 Academic Session. Under the approved calendar, returning students are to resume on Sunday, 12 October 2026, while newly admitted students will resume on Sunday, 26 October 2026, in line with the approved schedule of academic activities.

The emergency meeting ended with members of the Senate expressing renewed confidence in the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor and reaffirming their resolve to work collectively towards sustaining peace, strengthening academic standards and advancing the vision of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba.
