Party Faithful, Nigerians urged to embrace peace, unity as SDP declares Yultide, New Year Holidays
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has declared Christmas and New Year holidays for the party nationwide. The holidays commence on Friday, December 22, 2023, and resume on Monday, January 8, 2024.
In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Ambassador Rufus Aiyenigba, the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, felicitated with Christians across the country, wishing them a joyous, peaceful, and blessed yuletide season.
Gabam also prayed for a prosperous new year 2024 for Nigerians and assured them that the SDP, as a leading opposition party, will not shy away from its patriotic role of advocating and pushing for people-centered public policy, good and accountable governance, and social justice towards achieving a great country for all and sustainable national development.
He emphasized that the party will always promote and protect the true interests of Nigeria and continue to demand better deals for all Nigerians irrespective of class, tribe, or religion.
The SDP National Chairman urged Nigerians to use the festive period to embrace peace and unity. He called on Nigerians to put aside their differences and come together as one people to build a better Nigeria for all.
“This is a time for us to come together as a people and celebrate our common humanity,” Gabam said. “Let us embrace peace, love, and unity during this festive season. Let us use this opportunity to build bridges and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood that unite us.”
The SDP also used the opportunity to call on the government to address the current economic challenges facing the country. The party urged the government to take urgent steps to improve the living conditions of Nigerians.
“We call on the government to do everything in its power to make life easier for Nigerians,” Gabam said. “The current economic situation is very difficult for many people. We urge the government to take steps to address the high cost of living and create jobs.”
The SDP expressed its hope that the New Year will bring about positive change for Nigeria. The party called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and optimistic about the future of the country.
“We believe that Nigeria has a great future,” Gabam said. “Let us all work together to build a better Nigeria for ourselves and for future generations.”
The SDP’s declaration of Christmas and New Year holidays is in line with the tradition of Nigerian political parties to give their members a break during the festive season. The party’s call for peace and unity is also timely, given the current political climate in Nigeria.
