The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially confirmed former Cross River State governorship candidate, Sandy Onor, as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
‎
‎The announcement was made on Tuesday at Wadata Plaza, Abuja, during the collation and presentation of results from the party’s presidential primary process.
‎
‎The exercise was overseen by the PDP Presidential Primaries Collation Committee chaired by former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.
‎
‎According to the committee, Onor emerged following wide consultations across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, where party stakeholders reportedly agreed on a consensus through voice voting.
‎
‎The committee also noted that Onor became the sole aspirant after expressing interest in the race and obtaining his nomination and expression of interest forms earlier in the month.
‎
‎Addressing party members during the exercise, Ortom said consultations had been carried out extensively across the country before the final agreement on the candidate.
‎
‎He subsequently declared Onor as the PDP consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
‎
‎Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, including National Commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Prof. Rhoda Habor Gumus, were present to observe the process at the party secretariat.
‎
‎After the announcement, the party leadership presented a certificate of return and the PDP flag to Onor, formally confirming his candidacy.
