The Embattled National Secretary of the troubled People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, has described the Monday’s PDP governors forum resolution 2 in their communique as unconstitutional declaration of a state of emergency and a coup d’etat against the peace, unity and progress of the once largest political party in Africa.
A statement signed by the spokesman of the PDP National Secretary Comrade Daboikiabo Warmate,
said It is imperative to reiterate that most distinguished Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu had at no point in time resigned his position as the National Secretary and therefore remains the national secretary of PDP in accordance with the supreme court judgement and the PDP Constitution.
According to Warmate “the PDP constitution clearly stipulates how a national officer of the party can be elected, appointed, replaced or removed in line with sections 45, 47, 49, 57 and 59.”
“Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu has neither resigned nor the office of the national secretary had at any time become vacant to warrant installing an acting National Secretary or a call for a replacement. It is the National Convention that is saddled with the sole authority of appointing or removing national officers whose elections were dully supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).” He said.
Comrade. Warmate added that the PDP Governors Forum’s recommendation, directly or indirectly contradicts and violates all relevant sections of the PDP constitution which they have sworn to uphold.
“Right now the PDP governors forum have usurped the powers of the NWC, NEC and convention. The governors forum lacks the constitution powers to do so and impose on the party its decisions most especially an unpopular one at that.”
He called on the governors forum to as a matter of urgency take necessary steps to reverse the decision and resolve whatever personal rift they have with the FCT Minister, instead of dragging the position of the national secretary into it.
Senators Anyanwu through the spokesman urge the governors forum not to allow their ego and proxy war to exacerbate the already existing tension in the party that he described as a product of their misguided actions when they tried to remove the acting national chairman, divide the NWC and taking unconstitutional stand in the national secretary issue.
He stressed that it’s an aberration to have a substitutive National Secretary in the person of senator Samuel Anyanwu and appoint the deputy national secretary in acting capacity.
He wondered if the Governors forum is working for the party or working for the ruling APC in disguise ahead of 2027 general elections.
He said the governors have no moral right to criticize Mr. President for declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State when their actions are clearly replicating same in the party.
The senator said “I condemn and reject in totality the resolution 2 of the communique of the PDP governors forum today. The governor Bala Muhammad led PDP Governors Forum should be held responsible if, our great party fails to meet the expectations of Nigerians.”
“The governors are making our great party a laughing stock, for example you saw the laughable false narrative being pushed in some quarters that the PDP Governors Forum has affirm Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye as national secretary who was not even a party to the suite filed from the Enugu high court, appeal court Enugu division and supreme court judgements.”
“I therefore, urge the PDP governors forum to immediately reverse their draconian resolution 2 because it runs contrary to the supreme court judgement, the PDP constitution and it’s unpopular “. He concluded.
